Be a commissioner for the day and share what you think is most important when reviewing services

People across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are being invited to learn more about how local health decisions are made and sharing their opinions on how they should be prioritised.

Throughout February, the six CCGs in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are holding interactive events to give people the experience of being a commissioner. Those who attend will have the chance to input how and why they think services should be prioritised.

Dr Lorna Clarson, GP and Chair of Stoke-on-Trent CCG said: “Commissioning is one of the least talked about areas of the NHS, and we want people to understand more about it.

“These events will give members of the public an insight into the dilemmas we face as we try and do the best we can for our patients with the limited resources we have available.

“As clinical commissioners, the most important thing is that we base our decisions on the scientific evidence about which treatments are most effective and get the best results for the most patients.”

The events have been carefully devised to be as realistic as possible without participants needing to have expert knowledge or clinical qualifications. The events will use example services to get people discussing why and how they would prioritise services.

There’s still time to book your place at one of the upcoming events. The event in Leek took place this week (Wednesday) and people who attended found the activity very interesting.
