With league football about to kick off once more, a leading nurse has paid a glowing tribute to local clubs who have provided crucial support in the fight against COVID-19.
Nigel Williams was talking to TV presenter Colin Murray in a one-off production commissioned by the English Football League.
Nigel is normally a commissioning manager for the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent CCGs.
But at the beginning of the crisis he was tasked with setting up Coronavirus testing stations at Burton Albion and Stoke City football clubs.
He told Colin: “Both clubs worked really well together to support me and my staff. Both clubs supported us with staff volunteering - their community staff, their stewards, even their trainers.
“They kept us all sane basically with the camaraderie that they showed.”
Nigel added: “They helped us off the back of the other work that they were doing with their community trusts, delivering food parcels and organising virtual get-togethers for their local communities, yet they still had that time for us to support key workers.”
He also thanked Burton Albion for the key work they did encouraging local people to get tested for COVID-19 by getting their players tested.
