Third meeting held to listening to patient views on local services

on .

The third of a series of five listening events to hear what NHS community services people say they need in their local area was held last night.

The meeting at the Bet365 Stadium specifically looked at services in the area served by Longton Cottage Hospital.

Previous events have been held in Leek and Burslem.

Marcus Warnes, Accountable Officer for Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) said: “We need to make sure people have the services they need. We have to provide services that are affordable and accessible, and cater for the diverse needs in our communities. We know one size does not fit all and we are keen to listen to everything that people are saying.”

The feedback given from residents will help to develop the options that will be the subject of a formal consultation next year.

Issues raised included:

  • The need to understand opportunities provided in neighbouring areas
  • Information sharing and better co-ordination
  • Lack of awareness of what services are currently available
  • Public transport
  • Preventative services
  • Mental health
  • Dementia services including respite for carers
  • Linked up services for people with multiple conditions
  • Developing area care hubs

Dr Steve Fawcett, Medical Director for the CCGs said: “There are so many things we can do differently now than when the NHS was first created. We need to make sure that the services we provide are what people need and will use.”
