Patient Participation Groups 1

There were 80 attendees, which included 60 PPG members and staff from GP practices, and an additional 20 stallholders. Stalls included representatives from Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Partnership Trust (including infection control, end of life and school nursing teams), Healthwatch (both Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent), Public Health, Vast and Closer to Home Walking Network. There were also stands specifically focussing on patient groups, namely Newcastle North Locality Group, Leek and Biddulph Locality Group and Park Medical Centre PPG.

Sally Parkin shared information on the status of PPGs across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, and Dr Alison Bradley gave an overview of the new models of care, including Multispecialty Community Providers. There were also presentations from Peter Chell (on Social Prescribing - what it means, and what it could mean for PPGs), and Marc Shmid (on Virtual PPGs and how social media can support their communications).

Patient Participation Groups 2

There were group disucssions about the challenges facing PPGs, what is working well and what the future looks like for PPGs. We received lots of very useful feedback, which the CCGs will now take away and review, in order to come up with some recommendations.

An update on the recommendations and the actions we will take forward will be sent to PPGs and Practices and will be available on the website as soon as they are available.
