Gluten Free Prescribing

Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire Clinical Commissioning Groups, which plan and buy healthcare services for local people, have agreed that from 1st January 2017, gluten-free staple foods will continue to be prescribed to children and adolescents under the age of 18 diagnosed with Coeliac Disease (CD), other gluten-related enteropathy or dermatitis herpetiformis. The foods available on prescription will be restricted to bread, pasta and flour.

This means that as of 1st January 2017, GPs have been advised that they should no longer prescribe Gluten Free foods to adults.
